Are we really on facebook for that long?

It’s no secret that social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have found tremendous followings amongst the public with nearly 50% of the UK using social media on an average of 7 hours a day.
There is no doubt that the interconnectedness of society is a positive thing. However, when constant communication starts to take control and become one of your main recreational activities, it may be time to switch of the monitor and perhaps switch on the treadmill.

More and more people are starting to become disconnected from real life communication, as they feel more comfortable and safe behind a screen as they can avoid the awkwardness and potential conflict when with other people. It is clear that those who are socially incapable of holding a decent conversation in person, may be socialites, and those who are extroverts may be  quite boring online as they believe living through a screen creates a fake sense of reality.
