Facebook: king of all social network sites
It probably doesn't come as a surprise to you, but Facebook still sits comfortably on its throne as king of all social media. According to UK research firm Global Web Index, more than half of all internet users in the world were active on Facebook last month. In December last year 693 million used the social network site.
By taking second and third place (with YouTube), Google have also indicated that they are succeeding in getting their users engaged. 343 million people used Google+ last month and this shows that it isn't a failure in contrast to what many experts have claimed in the past. There is however significant overlap between Google+ and YouTube. Last month there were 280 million active YouTube users. (Yet you could state that YouTube is not really a social network site). It does show that there is an opportunity for Google to attract many more Google+ users, if they convert YouTube users into Google + users. That would add a significant amount of Google+ users and the social network site would start catching up with Facebook.
